This Reddit post by user photorph, shared on January 15, 2019, offers a valuable perspective on the comparison between Onewheel and Electric Unicycle (EUC) experiences:
Fun Factor: Onewheel, with its floaty feel and smooth carving, provides more enjoyment, especially for doing tricks. However, EUC may become more enjoyable with experience.
Range: EUC outperforms Onewheel, offering 25-30 miles of range on an entry-level model, potentially reaching 60 miles on an upgrade.
Portability: EUC wins with its trolley handle and smaller physical footprint, making it exceptionally easy to move around.
Safety: For beginners, Onewheel is perceived as safer due to familiarity, but EUC offers advanced safety features like audible alerts and pushback, potentially making it safer as riders gain experience.
Cool Factor: Onewheel wins for its stylish carving, but EUC’s long-range riding capabilities may appeal to some.
Performance: EUC offers higher speeds, with some models safely reaching 30-40 mph, while Onewheel’s max speed is typically lower.
Cost: In terms of specs, EUC often provides better value, with mid-level models costing less than an Onewheel XR.
Build Quality: It’s challenging to pick a winner, but larger batteries and motors in EUCs may offer additional safety, making them equally reliable.
Off-Road Capability: EUC is favored due to its straightforward tire design, but it depends on the rider’s skill.
Other Notable Points: Onewheel excels at stability when stationary, while EUC is more portable for indoor use. EUC is more physically demanding to learn.
Ultimately, the choice between Onewheel and EUC depends on individual preferences and requirements. Both offer unique experiences, with Onewheel being more recreational, and EUC being practical for commuting. The author appreciates having both. To read the original Reddit post, click here. One minor point worth mentioning is I think most EUCs probably have large enough batteries that aren’t allowed on planes, whereas the OW Plus (and probably the Pint) can be brought on trips.
The EUCs speeds are impressive, but I don’t think I could be comfortable going that fast on any of these devices. I took a big fall on my electric scooter, a fairly easy to ride vehicle, going 15 mph. I know I won’t be pushing my OW past 10-12 mph if I can help it. I’d hate to see the damage going 30/40 mph…yikes!
