The Ranger CnR method provides nearly as much added torque as the Ranger parallel method. I have recently switched to using a parallel connection method so I don’t risk damage to my XLR port in crashes and I have closely monitored current supplied by the EGO for both connection methods and it behaves the same. I know this is true after hundreds of miles riding with both ways. You shouldn’t mention that as an advantage of using the parallel method.

However connecting in parallel bypasses the reverse current protection of the charging port which allows the EGO to store motor braking regen. This is a big advantage for emergency stops or when riding down long hills when the battery is close to full charge.

You didn’t address charging the EGO. Another difference between Ranger CnR and Sonny’s kit is that Sonny supplies a cable that allows you to charge the EGO and OW+ together or separately with just the stock OW charger. You can do the same with the Ranger parallel kit (leave EGO connected and plug the OW charger into the OW charging port) but Land-surf cautions against this. Land-surf instructions require the purchase of a separate EGO charger.

The EGO charger is best for charging the EGO battery because it isn’t known if the EGO will fully balance its cells when using the OW charger. Having separate chargers also allows you to charge everything faster. However charging both with the OW charger does work and it is nice to not need to carry the very bulky EGO charger if charging away from home. Having the EGO charger at home lets you make sure that the EGO cells stay balanced over many use cycles and allows for the fastest charging times, but it usually needs to be purchased separately if you don’t already have a EGO lawn tool.

I’m constantly learning new things about these systems. I will update my review but in the meantime, know the following…

Please note the following: Make sure your Plus is hardware version 3206 or lower. Version 3208 will not work with the XLR cable. Instead, use the Ranger Parallel version if you have hardware 3208 or higher. You can find this info out by going to “settings” in your Onewheel app. All V1’s made will work with either XLR or parallel versions, so if you have a V1, you’re all set!
I don’t find that the EGO gets in the way, but it may be intimidating for some. If you are getting a new Plus, the hardware may not be compatible with XLR. The new hardware will be compatible with the EGO Parallel kit and the Two-X. I’d wait and get used to the range that you have on the stock Plus. It took me a few weeks before I could comfortably do 6 miles. Then you can maybe do a group ride and see if anyone has any range extending options you can give a test run.

So i just ordered a used Onewheel + but need more range if I’m going to use it to get to work. I’ll still have to charge it at work, so that means carrying two chargers. I like the Two X better, but it’s more costly.
Do you find the EGO battery gets in the way at all, or is helpful in any other way. (I.E. can grip the Onewheel a little like the flight fins)
I’m looking to decide on one of these options real soon. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Good question. For fastest and most reliable charge I would use the EGO charger to make sure all the cells get balanced correctly. I’m still working the details out though. Go Cougars!
