16 Onewheel City Riding Tips

We’ve moved! Check out our FULL article here. Summary below.

Many people now use their Onewheel as a last mile solution in urban settings, bridging the gap between transportation hubs and their final destinations. Whether it’s for commuting or exploration, Onewheels, along with electric scooters, skateboards, and unicycles, have become popular choices.

Riding a Onewheel in the city can be an exciting experience, but it requires careful consideration. Here are some tips for safe and enjoyable urban Onewheel riding:

  1. Build Confidence: Don’t rush into city riding; gain experience and miles on your Onewheel first.
  2. Wear Safety Gear: Always wear safety gear to protect yourself.
  3. Be Predictable: Maintain predictable riding patterns for the safety of others.
  4. Security: Never leave your Onewheel unattended; consider using a lock for security.
  5. Stay Alert: Be vigilant for traffic, pedestrians, obstacles, and unexpected situations.
  6. Prepare for the Unexpected: Be ready for surprises like swinging car doors, darting children, and more.
  7. Be Visible: Wear reflective clothing and use a flashlight, especially at night.
  8. Assume Invisibility: Even when visible, assume drivers don’t see you and practice safe crossing.
  9. Bring a Charger: Carry a charger to avoid getting stranded, as Onewheels may tempt you to take longer rides.
  10. Limit Distractions: Stay off the phone and avoid distractions while riding.
  11. Avoid Blind Spots: Don’t linger in driver blind spots; let cars pass safely.
  12. Respect and Responsibility: Obey traffic rules, be courteous, and don’t ride while intoxicated.
  13. First Aid Kit: Keep a simple first aid kit to address minor injuries.
  14. Plan Your Route: Use bike-friendly routes and apps like Google Maps.
  15. Explore and Enjoy: Embrace the journey, explore, carve, and have fun while riding.

  1. Great content. I love the bullet points and the Dad jokes.
Just a heads up, in your CMS, you have your “Posted On” pointed to the same page instead of the date posted. Sorry, but this is the software tester in me.

    1. Thanks. What is CMS? Sorry, still learning how to do this.

      1. CMS is “Content Management System”. Just a way to referring to the software that you use to piece your site together. I am no pro or anything, I just work in the software space.

I test drove a Plus yesterday and the guy I tested with is a fan as well.

  2. Woa woa “rude cyclists”? Tell me more lol

I’m more concerned about the rude cars that could kill.

  3. CMS stands for content management system. There is nothing wrong with using your posted date as a redirect to the post itself. Or, you could get creative and apply some coding to your templates or schema and use it as a tag if your current CMS doesn’t offer a stock tagging system.

Overall good content. I often review your site and I only have 200 miles on my XR. No board experience whatsoever. Thanks for guiding me along the way. : )

    1. Thanks for the support. Between learning how to blog and youtube, I may have spread myself too thin. I’ve got a lot to learn!
