7 Tips for Buying a Used Onewheel

We’ve moved! Check out our FULL article here. Summary below.

In my recent Onewheel purchase, I’ve come to believe that buying used Onewheels offers significant benefits. You can often find lightly used Onewheels on platforms like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace with some patience and a good strategy. This way, you save money and may still enjoy the warranty, which can transfer.

Here are 7 key tips for successful used Onewheel purchases:

  1. Have a Plan: Know your desired Onewheel model, set price expectations, and do thorough research.
  2. Be Flexible: Consider different Onewheel models and range-extending modifications to get the best deal.
  3. Set Alerts: Monitor Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist in your area and nearby cities for new listings.
  4. Be Patient: Finding the right deal takes time; patience pays off with discounts and extras.
  5. Contact Sellers Quickly: Good deals don’t last; reach out promptly if you’re ready to buy.
  6. Be Prepared: Use a checklist to inspect the Onewheel systematically.
  7. Use Common Sense: Ensure safe, public meetings with sellers, be cautious of red flags, and watch out for used boards from sellers who got hurt or lost interest.

Some sellers offer used Onewheels at a deep discount due to disappointment or accidents. Novices may give up when they don’t see immediate progress in learning, providing an opportunity for buyers. Overconfident beginners who push the board to the limit and end up hurting themselves may also sell their boards at a low price.

In one recent purchase, the seller had upgraded to a newer model, making his Onewheel Plus available for $900. Such opportunities arise when experienced riders upgrade.

My reason for buying another Onewheel was to enhance the group riding experience and explore range-extending modifications to match the Onewheel XR’s capabilities. Range extension can significantly enhance the Onewheel experience.

If you have experience with range-extending modifications or insights on making older Onewheel models more relevant, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
