How to Lock Your Onewheel Pint & 5 Security Tips

We’ve moved! Check out our FULL article here. Summary below.

Bike locks serve a dual purpose: security and convenience. Just as with passwords, there’s a balance between security and ease of use. An overly complex password can be secure but impractical, while a simple one is easy but lacks security. The best locks blend both aspects into practicality.

Security: If security was the sole concern, the ideal solution would be an impregnable fortress with 24/7 armed security to protect your Onewheel.

Convenience: For maximum convenience, a ball of twine or a roll of ribbon would suffice, but it offers minimal security.

A practical lock strikes a balance. Here are three lock types with their pros and cons:

  1. Cable Lock:
  • Pro: Inexpensive and flexible.
  • Con: Offers little protection; can be easily cut.
  • Summary: Not recommended due to low security.
  1. U Lock:
  • Pro: Better security than cable locks; works with Onewheel XR.
  • Con: Some models don’t fit the Pint.
  • Summary: Highly recommended for XR and Plus models; Pint options are limited.
  1. TiGr Locks:
  • Pro: Lightweight, innovative design, fits the Pint.
  • Con: Pricey.
  • Summary: The best option for securing your Pint. Offers good protection, portability, and fits Pint models.

No lock can withstand a determined thief, but you can take steps to secure your Onewheel:

  1. Know Your Serial Number: Capture it for your records, proving ownership if theft occurs.
  2. Never Leave Unattended: Keep your Onewheel with you whenever possible.
  3. Use a Reliable Lock: Employ a safe lock and use common sense regarding when and where to lock it.
  4. Secure in Well-Lit Areas: High foot traffic and visibility deter thieves.
  5. Cover Your Onewheel: Conceal it with a towel, bag, or cover when not in use, keeping it out of sight.

While there’s no foolproof security, being smart about how you handle your Onewheel when not riding it is crucial. Consider location, situation, common sense, and a good lock to prevent theft. Follow these tips and have recovery measures in place, such as having the serial number, photos, and alerting authorities and local groups in case of theft.

  1. Hi OneRadWheel, do you have any updates on other locks that fit the Pint? Several reviewers on Amazon have reported their bikes stolen using the TiGr lock, it’s apparently too easy to bolt through it. Please help! Many thanks!!
